Roupell Street
What it is
A boarded-up house near Waterloo, used by Alan Black as the operation’s base. The horses jemmy their way in; River Cartwright clears the upstairs rooms and finds the kitchen.
Book 1 — Slow Horses
- C10 — The discovery: a body in a pool of gore and a head on the table. River is sick in the gutter.
- C11 — Taverner’s team is told the house was empty but for the body; she orders it cleaned with fire.
- C15 — Roderick Ho traces the property to a Civil Service sales portfolio: Taverner simply squatted an empty building and left no footprint.
Why it matters
The address is Slow Horses’s clearest piece of tradecraft: an off-the-books operation needs a place that does not exist on any account, and the Service’s own property portfolio is the perfect hiding place. It is also where the operation stops being a plan and becomes a murder.
Open questions
Who else besides Black had access to the house, and whether the fire destroyed anything Taverner needed destroyed beyond the body.
