Larry
Who they are
The tallest of the three kidnappers, and the one with a conscience that arrives too late to be useful. He is a racist and a criminal and also the only member of the group who understands that murder is different from politics.
What they want
To get out without being a killer. He wants the kidnapping to stay a performance, and he wants Curly to stop enjoying it.
Book 1 — Slow Horses
- C06 — Helps talk Curly out of a live webcast; mocks him for it afterwards.
- C11 — Accuses Curly of murdering a spy and panics that everything has changed.
- C15 — Wants to dump the hire car and run; talks about courts.
- C16 — Deserts in Epping Forest rather than commit murder, and walks away.
Tells
Repeats the group’s slogans without conviction; flinches at the axe. He is the novel’s argument that cowardice is not the same as innocence, but it is not nothing.
Open questions
Whether he is caught. The last chapter does not say.
